Spring 2008 Virtual Visiting Scholars

Dr. Marsha Green, Professor of Psychology Albright College
"Creating Change: Protecting Marine Life from Harmful Ocean Noise"Tuesday, April 22, 2008
5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
ATC 101 and West 109 (Verizon Lab)
Dr. Marsha Green tells the story of how her research on endangered humpback whales propelled her into a fifteen year journey to protect marine life from intense underwater noise. Military sonars, air guns used for oil and gas exploration and large ships are the main sources of very loud sounds that can deafen, injure and kill marine mammals, fish and other marine life.
The journey includes trips to speak with members of the European Parliament, a meeting with NATO officials and speaking at the United Nations. Her organization has been involved in lawsuits to protect marine mammals and she has served on a Federal Advisory Committee on acoustic impacts on marine mammals.
Her goal is to inspire you to care and to dare enough to create change in an area that speaks to your heart.
