Accelerated Learning
Earth Science - in Accelerated Learning Hybrid Format
Earth Science GLG 120 SWALP is a four credit lab science
course -- the first at Montco, and one of the few in the
region, to be offered in the Accelerated Learning Program and in Hybrid format.
As the catalog's course description states, we will study topics of Astronomy, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Geology; but rather than conducting a traditional survey, as an ALP course we'll be examining these topics in a project-centered integrated fashion. And, as a hybrid course we'll be utilizing much independent and collaborative work on the 'off-days' between class meeting times. Access to and familiarity with broadband computer use will be a necessity.
Our overarching structure for the course will be to examine the IPCC report re: global climate change and to examine geologic hazards in the context of plate tectonics.
Textbook, lab investigations, online data access and analysis, and independent and group projects will be resources and activities which we'll regularly utilize. Class meetings are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM, from May 20th through July 15th.
