Phlebotomy Technician

    Purpose

The one semester Phlebotomy Technician Course is designed to give the student instruction in the field of Phlebotomy. Phlebotomy technicians, who are members of the clinical laboratory team, are responsible for obtaining quality specimens for diagnostic laboratory testing. The specimens are analyzed which in turn aids the physician in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of the patient. Therefore, this makes the phlebotomist an important part of the health care team. Additionally, students are trained in adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The Phlebotomy Technician Program is approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Persons successfully completing this course are eligible to sit for the Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) examination given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
