Nursing Laboratory

College Nursing Laboratory

The College Nursing Laboratory is an active and integral component within the Montgomery County Community College Nursing Program. It both supports and complements the clinical aspects of the nursing curriculum. In addition, the Laboratory provides nursing students opportunities for small group and one-on-one instruction and evaluation of skills, as well as numerous workshops and reviews in support of the Program's didactic presentations. The Laboratory is staffed with Master's prepared faculty who utilize various teaching styles to meet individualized student learning needs.

The Nursing Program has equipped the College Nursing Laboratory to enable students to observe and practice nursing care and selected procedures in simulated client care environments. The Laboratory has seven beds and a crib; four adult, a pediatric and infant mannequins; a torso trainer for heart and breath sounds; and various other practice modules. There are two mobile carts for medication preparation, intravenous access models and pumps, and a critical care crash cart for emergency response to simulated cardiac/respiratory arrest. The Laboratory is also equipped with updated computers for student access to the campus network and available CAI programs. Alternative methodologies are incorporated in the laboratory setting including virtual reality simulation for intravenous access and scenarios promoting critical thinking skills.

In conjunction with the expansion of the Nursing Program's community-based clinical offerings and a grant from the Helene Fuld Health Trust, HSBC Trustee, the Nursing Program has established an on-campus Health Promotion Nursing Center. Under faculty supervision, students develop programs and gain skill in planning and implementing activities that advance the health of members of the campus community. The College Nursing Laboratory and attached Conference Room are available for these presentations.
