ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (A.A.)
Purpose:The Elementary Education program is comparable to the first two
years of a four year college or university program in elementary
education. The student receives a core of liberal arts courses
and an introduction to educational issues.
Program Objectives:
A graduate should be able to:
--transfer to a four year college or university.
--demonstrate an understanding of the growth and development
of children.
--demonstrate an understanding of public school structure and
governance.
--demonstrate an understanding of basic educational concerns such
as discipline, motivation, certification and tenure laws.
--demonstrate a knowledge of a teacher's responsibilities based
on field experience.
--select among career options open to an individual with a
background in education.
--explain the history of the American educational system.
--communicate effectively with children and colleagues.
