PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH (A.S.)

Purpose:

The Physical Education and Health transfer program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation of liberal arts and essential professional preparatory courses for transfer to a college or university, while offering flexibility in elective credits in order to design a program of study tailored to meet professional goal options. Career opportunities include teaching, coaching, Health and Wellness education, athletic training, exercise science, movement and dance, sports, fitness and therapeutic recreation. There is a high degree of flexibility in the basic curriculum. Students selecting this major must consider the transferability of specific course credits with the transfer institution; therefore, it is highly recomended that students seek academic advising and counseling in order to meet their educational goals.

Program Objectives:

A graduate should be able to:
--demonstrate college level proficiency in mathematics, reading,
writing, speech communication and computer science.
--demonstrate competency in administering first aid and CPR to
victims of injuries or sudden illness.
--demonstrate knowledge about human anatomy and physiology,
kinesiology exercise science, and health and wellness.
--formulate a professional philosophy of health and physical
education.
--secure an entry level position in any of the professional areas
that have positions available to Physical Education and Health A.S.
graduates, if transfer does not occur immediately upon graduation.
--apply for transfer to a four-year college or university into an
undergraduate program of physical education and health with a
seamless transition.
