TECHNICAL STUDIES (A.A.S.)

Purpose:

This program is designed as an individualized and flexible option
to meet the educational needs of individuals who have substantial
work/life/educational experience which is acceptable for a
minimum of 15 college credits and who have a career interest in
technical occupations.

Program Objectives:

A graduate should be able to:
--interact effectively in interpersonal and occupational
activities.
--demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of and ability to use
mathematics, science, social science and the humanities necessary
for career growth consistent with the chosen goal.
--advance in the chosen career using acquired knowledge and
skills.
--continue to increase levels of technical knowledge and skills.
--present technical information in oral, written and graphic
form.

CURRICULUM
I. Technical Core
To complete the Technical Core the student may be awarded a
minimum of 15 credits, with a maximum of 20 credits, earned
through work/life/educational experience. This experience may
be verified in a number of ways and may include: apprenticeship
training, military training and trade/proprietary/vocational
education. College approved vocational education courses/
programs offered at the post-secondary level by vocational/
technical schools may be used for credit by the student.

II. General Technology Requirements
The student will work with an advisor to develop an educational
plan. The plan is a list of courses from one or more of the
following areas totaling 20 or more credits. The courses are
selected to augment the Technical Core so that the student can
fulfill the requirements needed to meet an occupational goal.

A. Science (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics)
B. Mathematics
C. Computer and Information Systems
D. Engineering
E. Electronics
F. Drafting
G. Business
H. Environmental Study

III. General Education Requirements
The student, with approval of an advisor, may elect Option I
or Option II as outlined in this catalogue to meet the core
requirements of the Associate in Applied Science degree.
