Health Care - Home Care Aide Program

The U.S. Department of Labor predicts that Home Care Aides will
grow faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2012.

  • Employment of home care aides is expected to grow, as a result of both growing demand for home healthcare services from an aging population and efforts to contain healthcare costs by moving patients out of hospitals and nursing care facilities as quickly as possible.
  • Consumer preference for care in the home and improvements in medical technologies for in-home treatment also will contribute to faster-than-average employment growth for home care aides.

Student

The Home Care Aide Program at Montgomery County Community College’s West Campus in Pottstown is designed to help students learn the basics of caring for a client in the home or in an assisted living facility. This program integrates theory, laboratory simulations and a clinical practicum experience. Home Care Aide graduates will become valuable members of the health care delivery team.

Graduating students will be able to take the National Association for Home Care’s national certification examination for home care aide. The student will also receive a certificate of completion from the college.

The Home Care Aide Program is an 80 hour program which includes clinical practicum experience. Students are required to successfully complete all of the following in order to be deemed eligible to take the National Certification exam: chapter tests, final examination, a skills based competency assessment and clinical practicum. Students must have a Criminal Background check, physical and TB screening completed prior to their clinical practicum.
