What is the Municipal Police Academy?
The Municipal Police Academy of Montgomery County Community College,
is a licensed (0010) Pennsylvania Police Academy.
What does the Academy teach?
The Academy teaches the basic curriculum of Municipal Police Training
as mandated y the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission.
What is the function of the Academy?
The function of the Academy is to provide training that will qualify
individuals to perform the duties of a Municipal Police Officer in the
state of Pennsylvania.
Who may be admitted into the Academy?
Both sworn and unsworn applicants are eligible for admission. Unsworn
applicants are individuals who are pursuing careers in Law Enforcement.
Sworn Police Officers attend the Academy to satisfy state training requirements.
How are unsworn applicants admitted into the Academy?
They are admitted through a screening process which includes
- Physical Fitness Pre-Test
- Criminal History Check
- Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary Test
- Psychological Testing and Evaluation
- Medical Examination
- Personal Interview
Where are classes held?
Classes are currently being held at the Montgomery County Fire Academy, 1175 Conshohocken Road, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
When are classes scheduled?
Day classes begin in the fall and spring. The evening class begins in August.
Full-time day classes are approximately 22 weeks in length. The evening class
runs approximately 42 weeks. For further information, contact the Academy.
What is the cost of Academy training?

Is a dress code required?
Cadets are required to wear the Academy uniform and plain black-laced-style shoes.
Are any additional expenses involved?
Yes. In addition to the fees charged during the screening process which are for the criminal history records check, and the psychological examination, each student is responsible for the costs involved in the purchase of uniforms and equipment required to successfully participate in the program.
Are college credits awarded for Academy training?
Yes. Cadets successfully completing the program may be eligible to receive up to 19 academic credits toward the completion of the Associate Degree program in Criminal Justice at Montgomery County Community College.
