Technology Programs - Cisco Networking Academy
Montgomery County Community College teamed with Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader in networking of the Internet, to become an Academy Training Center, Regional and Local Cisco Networking Academy in the Fall of 1998 .
As a Cisco Academy Training Center and Regional Academy, MCCC offers training and support to two- and four-year colleges, high schools and vocational technical schools that are integrating Cisco training programs into their curricula. As a Local Academy, MCCC offers Cisco training in both credit- and non-credit formats for post-high school students. This program is designed to teach high school and college students how to design, build and maintain the computer networks of local, national and global businesses. Upon completing the program, graduates will have the skills necessary to fill some of the estimated 346,000 high-technology jobs that are currently available in businesses throughout the U.S.
The Cisco Networking Academy program's purpose is two-fold: to address the growing nationwide shortage of skilled Information Technology specialists and to assist schools by providing them with a self-sustaining system for maintaining their own networks. As tens of thousands of elementary and secondary schools become "wired", principals across the country have scrambled to find people to build and maintain their new networks.
In this Information Age, network administrators are essential to the success of almost all businesses, including schools," says John Morgridge Cisco Chairman Emeritus "Yet most companies are shaking the bushes to find enough people with the right skills to address the demand.”
Using proven networking curriculums, refined and focused for the school environment, students at MCCC will be taught the conceptual and technical skills to design, install, operate and maintain state-of-the-art computer networks. Graduates of the Academy program will have the acquired skills necessary to take the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) and the Cisco Certified Network Entry Technician exams. CCNA/CCENT certifications position students for immediate openings in the job market or for engineering- and science-focused college studies.
The Academy also offers the A+ course and Cisco specialization courses in Wireless, Security and Voice over IP.
