Credits: 3.00This course includes all facets of welding as they apply to the servicing and repair of cars and light trucks. Some of the methods covered are ARC welding process, oxy-acetylene welding process, metal inert Gas Welding (MIG) process, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding process, and resistance spot welding. The safe use of a cutting torch and the heating tip is also covered.
AUT 150 Automotive Electricity & Elect
Credits: 4.00This course, upon completion, enables students to perform electrical troubleshooting procedures, operate automotive engine and body electrical diagnostic equipment, and perform diagnostic procedures on vehicles. Prerequisite: ELT 110
AUT 160 Heating & Air Conditioning
Credits: 3.00This course is intended to develop skills in the theory and operation of automotive heating and air conditioning systems. It includes ATC Automatic Temperature Control and refrigerant recovery, diagnosis, and repair procedures. Basic hand tools are required.
AUT 180 Computerized Engine Controls
Credits: 3.00This course focuses on the application of the microprocessor in modern automotive systems. It will include an overview of the electrical and electronic components and circuits used in controlling engine operation and in emission controls. On-board diagnostic systems currently used and future design considerations will be discussed. Each system of the multifunction computer will be covered with enough specific information to provide the student with a thorough and complete understanding of how the complex automotive control system works. Prerequisites: AUT 150, or permission of the Director. A student must successfully complete or place out of ENG 011, ESL 011, MAT 011, REA 017 and REA 018.
AUT 188 Cooperative Work Experience I
Credits: 1.00A supervised, on-the-job training in an approved work site coordinated by the College and the Auto Dealers Association. Usually for pay depending on the employer. The student must successfully complete the Automotive courses immediately preceding the co-op experience in order to qualify for this experience. The purpose of this requirement is that practical experiences will be provided to reinforce the lecture and lab concepts previously taught. The student will be evaluated by the Automotive Technology instructor and personnel at the work site. Prerequisite: Appropriate AUT courses (first semester)
