MAS 110 Lab Procedures for Medical Assistants

This comprehensive course introduces the student to the purpose, techniques, and recording of diagnostic laboratory procedures commonly performed in the medical office. Subjects covered include general laboratory techniques, phlebotomy, specimen collection, handling and processing, diagnostic testing and performing hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology testing. Each student must successfully complete competency evaluations in order to be eligible for graduation and professional practice. Co-requisites: BIO 103 and CAO/HCP 224

MAS 112 Med Assist-Clinical Assisting Procedures

The course builds a solid foundation in Medical Assisting and introduces students to the clinical procedures commonly performed in a medical office. MAS 120 Professional Issues in Medical Assisting

This capstone course will serve as the culminating point in preparing for the transition from student to practicing Medical Assistant by exploring professional development issues. It will prepare graduates to value life-long learning, problem solving, critical thinking, and interpersonal communication as means of achieving personal professional growth. Students ill prepare for job interviews, write a resume and explore career advancement skills. Students will be required to complete a capstone project. MAS 130 Medical Assisting Externship

Credits: 3.00

This course provides the student with practical experience in a medical office environment. During the unpaid externship, the student will have the opportunity to apply the skills learned in the classroom, and laboratory in a clinical setting. This important part of the student146s total education includes an opportunity to perform various clinical and administrative procedures at the externship site. Each student must successfully complete competency evaluations in order to be eligible for graduation and professional practice.
