NUR 050 Transition Into Associate Degree Nursing
Credits: 3.00This course is designed to aid the LPN, who is eligible for the Nursing Program advanced standing, with socialization from the previous role to the role of the registered nurse. The LPN will be familiarized with the Nursing Program at MCCC. The emphasis of the course will be on the use of the nursing process in the implementation of the roles of the associate degree nurse. Seminars, videotaping, presentations, independent study and clinical experience are all integral parts of this course. Prerequisite: CIS 109, Practical Nursing Licensure, Nursing Placement Examination for LPN's.
NUR 106 Concepts of Nursing
Credits: 3.00This course focuses on those basic concepts which form the foundation of nursing practice, including nursing history, caring, health, wellness-illness, nursing process, communication, teaching-learning, legal-ethical principles of practice, cultural diversity, spirituality, theories of growth and development, and scope of nursing within the health care system. Examination of nursing theories helps introduce the philosophy and conceptual framework of the nursing program. This is a non clinical course. NUR 109 Concepts of Nursing
Credits: 2.00This course introduces the philosophy and conceptual framework of the Nursing Program. The focus is on basic concepts of nursing. Included are the history of nursing practice and education, caring, communication, roles of the nurse, legal and ethical principles of practice, and the scope of nursing within the healthcare system. This is a non-clinical course.
NUR 110 Introduction to Nursing
Credits: 8.00This course is designed to develop caring attitudes and behaviors towards self and others and provide a foundation of nursing skills. Application of these skills will occur with clients across the lifespan in wellness-oriented settings. Client needs will be identified using the nursing process, with all emphasis on assessment. Presentations, seminars and laboratory practice are an integral part of the course. Pre-Requisites: BIO 131, ENG 101, PSY 101, NUR 106 Co-Requisites: BIO 131, ENG 102

NUR 112 Nursing Care of Clients W/Uncompl Needs
Credits: 8.00This course focuses on the use of the nursing process to assist clients across the lifespan experiencing commonly occurring uncomplicated healthcare needs. There will be an emphasis on developing skills necessary to function as a member of the healthcare team. Clinical experiences will occur in a variety of settings. Pre-Requisites: BIO 132, NUR 110, ENG 102 Co-Requisites: BIO 140, SOC 101
NUR 200 Nurse Extern Seminar
Credits: 3.00The course is designed to afford the student employed in a Nurse Extern capacity an opportunity to enhance nursing knowledge and expertise. During the extern experience the student provides client focused care, which is human needs centered, caring, and implemented based on the nursing process. Through dialogue amongst the nursing student, faculty member, and interdisciplinary health care team, collaborative relationships are developed which support the student's socialization to the acute care nursing culture while sharing in client care. Critical thinking skills are enhanced through reflective thinking and participation in client focused care dialogues. Students will interact with each other and the instructor via an internet-based course site. Prerequisite: Employment in an established summer Nurse Extern program offered through an acute care health facility. Co-requisite(s): A minimum of 16 hours of employment per week in a Nurse Extern program is required with a minimum of 128 clock hours of employment over the course of NUR 200. Verification of employment and clinical hours will be required at the beginning of the course.
NUR 210 Holistic Health: Complementary & Alterna
Credits: 3.00Alternative Health Practices This course will explore the use of complementary and alternative health practices within a holistic framework of care. A spirit of inquiry will be encouraged through sharing of knowledge, demonstration and exploration of selected health practices such as herbal remedies, homeopathy, healing touch therapies, and chiropractic and Eastern therapies. Use of complementary and alternative health practices will be evaluated in the context of managing health conditions such as pain, weight, addictions, and gender specific issues. This course will examine use of complementary and alternative health practices in terms of safety, effectiveness and integration into one's own lifestyle and working with others. Also offered as PEH 210.
NUR 211 Nursing Care of Clients W/Complex Needs
Credits: 8.00This course focuses on the use of the nursing process to assist persons across the lifespan experiencing frequently seen complex healthcare needs. There will be an emphasis on increasing autonomy within an expanded scope nursing practice. Clinical experience will occur in a variety of settings. Prerequisite: NUR 112.
NUR 212 Nursing Management of Client Care
Credits: 8.00This course focuses on the nursing management of clients across the lifespan experiencing acute and chronic healthcare needs. Emphasis is on client advocacy and collaboration in providing for the continuity of care. Clinical experiences will occur in a variety of settings. Prerequisite: NUR 211.
NUR 213 Professional Issues In Nursing
Credits: 2.00This course explores current issues in nursing such as legal- ethical questions, management styles, leadership roles, nursing research and healthcare delivery systems. It emphasizes transition from student nurse to professional nurse by exploring professional responsibilities and accountability to self, profession and society. This is a non-clinical course. Prerequisite: NUR 211 Co-requisite: NUR 212
NUR 220 General Pharmacology
Credits: 3.00Designed for the student who has a basic understanding of the human body and how it works. This course emphasizes the major drug classifications, related legal/ethical considerations, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug toxicity, and therapeutic monitoring. Also offered as HCP 220.
