Promotion
Faculty are eligible to apply for promotion based on years full-time teaching experience and graduate credits/degrees earned as appropriate to the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor. All new faculty are encouraged to become acquainted with the College’s requirements and to prepare well in advance for their promotions.
Promotion Cycles
The College has two promotion cycles: one for faculty hired between March 1 and December 31 (identified as fall hires) and a second for faculty hired between January 1 and February 28/29 (identified as a spring hire). To determine the eligibility requirements for promotion to each level of faculty rank, please refer to the Faculty Union Contract (Article 15 Promotions, Page 17).
Process
Faculty must file for promotion. The application process, with key dates for the upcoming promotion cycle, is as follows:
- Apply for certification of eligibility to the Office of Human Resources no later than October 10, 2008, for Fall hires and no later than February 2, 2009, for Spring hires.
- Submit an appropriate level portfolio by March 6, 2009, for Fall hires and October 9, 2009, for Spring hires.
Complete directions with additional dates can be found in the College’s publication, Faculty Promotion Procedures.
The Portfolio
In order to be considered for promotion, faculty must complete a comprehensive portfolio which will be reviewed by the Promotion Committee. Workshops and individual support are available through the Office of Faculty Development and Assessment. Faculty are encouraged to take advantage of the promotion/portfolio workshops well in advance of their anticipated promotion schedule. Portfolio requirements can be found in the College’s publication, Promotion Guidelines.
