1. Review the Strategy Questionnaire.

2. Read the accompanying article, "Studying the Death Penalty."

3. Answer the following questions:

  1. Why was the data being collected?
  2. According to this article, what does sociology teach?
  3. Did Radelet's study indicate that race played a role in determining which prisoners received the death penalty?

View the answers.

4. Answer the strategy questionnaire to determine which strategies helped you the most.

5. Keep in mind that these strategies may be useful when you read textbook material.

6. If you answered 1 or 2 for any of the strategies, consider employing those strategies the next time you have difficulty comprehending written material.
