As the fall semester ends, Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) is finishing 2017 with top rankings, according to several news and college ranking organizations.
Per Washington Monthly’s 2017 College Guide and Rankings, MCCC ranks 15th among the best two-year colleges in the nation for adult learners (students ages 25 and older), and is among the top of the list in Pennsylvania, earning the maximum points for ease of transfer, flexibility of programs, and services for adult students.
One of the many ways MCCC assists adult learners is by awarding credits through its Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). Through PLA, students may earn credits for prior experience and continuing education or get certain courses waived based on testing. This allows students to earn their degree or credentials at a quicker pace.
For its selection, Schools.com uses reputable sources, including the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics, as well as reports from the individual schools, according to its website. Ranking criteria included the percentage of online students, cost of attendance, student-to-faculty ratio, average retention rate, graduation rate, the number of transfer agreements with other Pennsylvania institutions and flexibility.
Regionally, MCCC is listed as the 5th best college in Philadelphia among colleges that offer Information Technology degrees, according to Universities.com. Each school’s ranking was based on the compilation data from government sources, student surveys, college graduate interviews and editorial review.
MCCC also was recognized in Great Value College’s top 10 list for its online associate’s degree program in Computer Science. Great Value assessed programs based on tuition value, relevancy of the curriculum to the demands of the field, student to faculty ratio, national recognition for educational excellence, discount for online students and exceptional student services for digital learners.
Along with Great Value College’s rankings, MCCC made Affordable Colleges' list for the top 25 schools that offer affordable online associate degrees in business management. According to its website, Affordable Colleges includes MCCC among the accredited schools that offer an “excellent blend of low tuition and positive graduation outcomes for students.” MCCC’s Management degree program is designed for students who want to start, advance in or change their professional careers and is offered online and on campus.
Through its Virtual Campus, MCCC offers numerous online degree and certificate programs taught by experienced faculty and is fully accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. MCCC has agreements with more than 40 transfer partners, enabling graduates to seamlessly continue their education.
Additionally, MCCC’s University Center allows graduates to pursue their bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees taught by partner colleges and universities on-campus at Blue Bell and Pottstown and online.
