Launch or Grow Your Business with Montgomery County Community College!
Aspiring entrepreneurs can compete for cash awards to launch or grow their business ventures through The Karen A. Stout Start-Up Accelerator Fund, named in honor of President Emerita Karen A. Stout.
Entrepreneurs must submit their business plans by February 28, 2018. Selected applicants will then be invited to the College in April 2018 to pitch their business concepts to a review team.
Select entrepreneurs will be awarded between $1,000 and $25,000 to help launch or grow their business ventures. Recipients will work with the College’s Center for Entrepreneurial Services and are eligible for inclusion in the College’s Entrepreneurship Academy, co-sponsored by Drexel University’s Close School of Entrepreneurship, to assist in preparing their business plan, to set key milestones and deliverables and to monitor progress and outcomes.
Military veterans, participants from the College's Women-Owned Business Network and Certificate in Entrepreneurship program, and student, female and minority entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply.
Ventures submitted for funding consideration should be located in, or have the ability to, impact Montgomery County or the surrounding Philadelphia region. Submitted plans should address the following elements and be structured around and in order of the following headings/areas:
- MARKET FEASIBILITY
Clearly articulate a sustainable market for the product or service (e.g., existing market demand, customer segments, future market projections, etc.).
Defined competitive position and discernable competitive advantage.
- VALUE PROPOSITION
Clearly articulated value is to customers and why they will pay the designated price for the product(s)/services(s).
- FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY
Clearly articulated why the venture is financially viable (e.g., short- and long-term finances, revenues and costs, margin and profitability, etc.).
- ABILITY TO EXECUTE
Strength of management team demonstrating the proper skills and experience to execute the venture's strategy.
The fund is looking for seed/early stage companies with the ability to launch within one year.
- POTENTIAL IMPACT
Degree and likelihood of significant economic impact to Montgomery County and the region over the short and long-term?
- AFFINITY CATEGORY
The fund supports the success of military veteran, minority, women, and alumni owned businesses and proposals submitted by companies with 50% or greater ownership held by a person or persons in one or more of these categories will be given special consideration.
