Noted Chinese-American author Maxine Hong Kingston will discuss the creative process and her own enduring body of work in the keynote address for the 2009 MCCC Writers Conference. Author of
The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood among Ghosts, Tripmaster Monkey,
China Men, and
The Fifth Book of Peace, Kingston is the recipient of the National Humanities Medal, the National Book Critics Circle Award, and The National Book Award. Her work blurs the line between memoir and fiction by blending her Chinese heritage with questions of gender and racial equality. Her talk launches the two-day Writers Conference that offers aspiring and working writers the opportunity to discuss the practical issues related to the life of a writer, the chance to meet with literary agents, and networking opportunities.
