The Spanish Harlem Orchestra will bring its revival of Afro-Cuban music to Montgomery County Community College on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Science Center Theater, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. Tickets cost $25 for general admission, $20 for students and seniors and $10 for children. For information and tickets, visit www.mc3.edu/campusLife/artsCulture or call 215-641-6518.
Founded by Aaron Levinson and Oscar Hernandez in 2002, this 13-man group has sought to bring the "Original Sound of New York" with a modern blend to people of all ages. The orchestra’s music is a mix of classic Salsa tune covers and original material. The group’s latest release, "United We Swing," places the Spanish Harlem Orchestra at the forefront of Latin music by paying tribute to the Eastside neighborhood from which the music emerged.
Since its debut, the Spanish Harlem orchestra has been nominated for three Grammy Awards, winning for its second album "Across 110th Street," which also earned the ensemble a Latin Grammy for best new band or group.
