Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) continues to receive community support for its unique POWER (Partnership On Work Enrichment and Readiness for Transitional Age Youth) Program.
Most recently, MCCC received a $1,000 grant from the Philadelphia Home for Orphans of the Odd Fellows of Pennsylvania in support of the POWER Program. The grant is being used to offset the cost of instructional materials.
Initiated in 2006, the POWER Program has helped more than 200 adults in mental health recovery to successfully develop their goals through one or more college courses and personalized educational and career plans. When students graduate from the POWER class and opt to continue with other credit courses, they attend a weekly POWER Plus course. The class functions as a support group using problem-solving techniques.
