Montgomery County Community College now offers accelerated Certified Public Accountant exam preparation courses for people who currently have a bachelor’s degrees and want to take the CPA exam for new career opportunities.

The accounting courses are offered in an accelerated, ten-week format at the Central Campus in Blue Bell starting this fall. All classes meet once a week for 4.5 hours in the evening to accommodate students’ work schedules.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment outlook for accountants and auditors is expected to grow faster than average, by 22 percent between 2008 and 2018. An increase in businesses, changing financial laws and corporate governance regulations and an increased accountability for protecting stakeholders will drive this job growth.

Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2010-11 Occupational Outlook Handbook indicates, “Accountants and auditors who have earned professional recognition through certification or other designation, especially a CPA, should have the best job prospects.”

While preparing for the CPA exam, students can also earn credits toward an Accounting Specialty Certificate. This certificate is suited for students wishing to gain in-depth expertise in a specific field.
