Mustangs Defeat Division I Wolverines

In non-conference play between Montgomery County Community College and Essex County College on Friday, the NJCAA Division III Mustangs womenÕs soccer team overtook the NJCAA Division I Wolverines.

The Mustangs started the game strong when freshman Megan Kelly (North Penn) beat the Wolverines goal keeper one-on-one to score in the 9th minute of play. Up 1-0, the Mustangs kept the offensive momentum and control of the ball landing in the second half with a one-goal lead over the Wolverines.

Mustangs sophomore Stephanie Doran (Lansdale Catholic) bumped up her team another notch with a breakaway goal in the first five minutes of the second half. Down by two, the Wolverines scrambled to recover finally grabbing a goal of their own in the 79th minute of play. With just over 10 minutes left in the game the Wolverines fought to close the gap, but the Mustangs defense held on earning the team the 2-1 victory.

The Mustangs are currently seeded third in the NJCAA Division III Region 19 playoffs with a record of 9-5 and will travel to Camden County College to play the Cougars in the first round of playoffs on Tuesday Oct. 27 at 2 p.m.
