Montgomery County Community College’s Brendlinger Library will sponsor a series of book discussions from 12:30-1:20 p.m. on Sept. 23, Nov. 2 and Dec. 2 in the Central Campus Bookstore, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. On Wednesday, Sep. 23, Dr. Marc Schuster, who is an English Instructor at MCCC, will discuss his first novel, The Singular Exploits of Wonder Mom and Party Girl. The debut novel details the story of a divorced mother whose quest to be everything to everyone exposes the dark secrets of an American suburb. Copies of Schuster’s novel will be on hand for purchase and signing.
On Wednesday, Nov. 2, Schuster will lead a discussion of the novel Tripmaster Monkey: His Fake Book by Maxine Hong Kingston. The discussion is in preparation of Kingston’s public keynote address during the College’s annual Writer’s Conference on Nov. 6-7. Kingston’s third book focuses on cultural identity in 1960s California through the eyes of a Chinese American playwright. On Wednesday, Dec. 2, author Lucinda Fleeson will discuss her memoir Waking Up in Eden: In Pursuit of an Impassioned Life of an Imperiled Island. The book details Fleeson’s two-year experience on the island of Kauai in the 1990s, where she worked as a fund raiser for the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii. She explores the garden’s history, plant crisis and ecosystems. Copies of the book will be on hand for purchase and signing.
