Coming off a 7-2 victory over Manor College on Tuesday the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s soccer team looked to earn another win in Wednesday evening’s competition against the Bucks County Community College Centurians.
Visibly sluggish from the previous day’s play, the Mustangs battled evenly with the Centurians throughout the first half. Both teams were unable to find the back of the net by half time, leaving the Mustangs with an unsatisfying 0-0 score on the board.
Mustangs Coach Tim McNally made crucial adjustments for second half play enabling his team to generate more offensive momentum. In the 58th minute the Mustangs’ leading scorer Jeannine Mason converted her own rebound to score the game-winning goal.
The Centurians frantically tried to close the gap but were no match for a stellar performance by goal keeper Erica Smolcynski. In the last two minutes of the game sophomore Stephanie Doran dished off a cross-goal pass to freshman Katie Miller, who punched it in to seal the deal for the Mustangs.
This 2-0 victory over the Centurians bumps the Mustangs to a 4-1 record as they take on Camden County Community College Thursday Sept. 24 in Camden, N.J.
