Credit enrollment reached an all-time high for the ninth consecutive year at Montgomery County Community College, with the fall 2009 headcount totaling 13,220 students, which is close to a 10 percent increase over last fall. The enrollment numbers will continue to increase, as the College is still registering students for late-start and accelerated courses, which begin at various times throughout the fall semester.
Setting another record, enrollment at the College’s West Campus in Pottstown has exceed 2,500 students for the first time in history, with first-week enrollment standing at 2,535, which is more than 11 percent higher than last fall. Enrollment in e-Learning continues to also set records, with 3,137 students enrolled, which is an increase of 33.32 percent over last fall. The total number of credit-hours enrolled is up more than 11 percent from last fall, standing at 123,079.
“In today’s uncertain economic climate and with rising concern about costs associated with higher education, more and more students are enrolling at community colleges as their first choice,” said Dr. Karen A. Stout, President. “Montgomery County Community College’s affordability, coupled with quality transfer agreements with four-year institutions and strong two-year career programs, enable students to get the education they need to move forward. Plus, the College continues to grow and extend its reach in the community by introducing fast-track career and certificate programs in high-demand areas like geographic information systems, wastewater management, phlebotomy, and private security.”
Enrollment in summer courses at the College also finished with a record increase of more than 16 percent.
