Actors From the London Stage will present the Shakespearean classic "King Lear" as part of the Lively Arts series at Montgomery County Community College on Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. in the Science Center Theater, 340 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell. Tickets cost $25 for general admission, $20 for students and seniors and just $10 for children. For information and tickets, visit www.mc3.edu/campusLife/artsCulture or call 215-641-6518.
Founded in 1976 by British actor Patrick Stewart (best known in North America as Professor X in the "X-Men" trilogy and Captain Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), this five man Shakespeare troupe has only one goal in mind: to bring professionally acted and affordable Shakespeare to North American colleges. For each production, the five actors take on two or three lead roles as well as several supporting ones. Since there is no director, each member is responsible for a different aspect of the production.
The men and women who comprise Actors From the London Stage have all been trained and work in Great Britain’s best Shakespeare theater companies such as Royal Shakespeare Company, The Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
Prior to the performance of "King Lear," the troupe will share its expertise with students during a week-long residency at the College.
