If you are interested in teaching, Montgomery County Community College offers many different programs that will help you train for a career in this field. You can earn a certificate or associate’s degree or prepare to transfer to a four-year college and obtain a bachelor’s degree. Teaching opportunities are plentiful especially in the fields of early childhood education, mathematics, science, and English language learning. There are also favorable job prospects in urban or rural school districts.

Credit

AA degree in Education in the Early Years: Birth through Fourth Grade will enable you to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor’s degree. The College has articulation agreements with many colleges in the area, making transfer relatively simple.

AA degree in Secondary Education will allow you to transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor’s degree and teach in a high school. Students in this program take most of their course work in the content area in which they intend to teach.

Certificate in Child Care is a 30-credit program that prepares professionals to work as assistants in the field of early care and education in PA. You can work with children from birth through kindergarten and also with school age children in before and after school programs. All of the 30 credits from this program easily transfer into the AAS program in Early Childhood Education at the College for students who want to continue their education.

Core Director's Credential Certificate is a three-course certification designed for child care center directors, assistant directors or administrators. The Certificate is awarded by the state of Pennsylvania once the student has shown successful completion of the three courses.

AAS degree in Paraprofessional Education is a 60-61 credit degree program that prepares students to work in paraprofessional roles (or assistants) in special education classrooms, elementary classrooms, English language learning classrooms, secondary education classrooms, or libraries.

We also offer certification as a Child Development Associate through our Division of Workforce Development and Continuing Education.
