While the fire service in this area has been historically volunteer-based, it is moving rapidly toward a ‘mixed’ volunteer and salaried system, offering much improved career opportunities. Although employment is expected to grow faster than the average, keen competition for jobs is expected because this occupation appeals to many qualified candidates.
Montgomery County Community College has several credit and non-credit options for students. Most courses are held off-site at the Montgomery County Fire Academy.
