Progression in Nursing

Candidates for the A.A.S. Degree in Nursing may progress within the program and be recommended to the PA State Board of Nursing for licensure and eligibility to take the NCLEX-RN examination if the following requirements have been met.

  1. Minimum grades of "C" in all nursing and related science courses
  2. Complete each sequence as identified under Sequence of Courses

A student who withdraws from the Nursing Program and is readmitted at a later date must successfully complete the requirements in effect when readmitted.

All students must complete the Nursing Program within three academic years of the date of first official enrollment in the program.

The PA State Board of Nursing may not issue a license or certificate to an applicant who has been:

  1. convicted* of an act prohibited by the Act of April 14, 1972 (P.L.233, No. 64,) known as "The Controlled Substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act," or convicted of an act relating to a controlled substance in a court of law of the United States or any other state, territory or country; or
  2. convicted* of any felony and/or misdemeanor reflecting on questions about moral character as directed in Sec. 13, 14, 15, of the Professional Nursing Law.
  3. All questions related to items #1 and 2 are to be directed to the Commonwealth of Pa., State Board of Nursing, P.O. Box 2649, Harrisburg, Pa. 17105-2649.
  4. A person convicted of any felonious act may be prohibited from licensure by the Board of Nursing at any time.
* Convicted includes a judgment, an admission of guilt, a plea of nolo contendere, probation without verdict, or uncompleted ARD.
