Medical Coding Certificate of Completion

Purpose

This 9-credit Certificate of Completion program provides students with the opportunity to concentrate study in Medical Coding and develop coding skills integral to health services administrative practices and procedures. Such knowledge is critical for health services administrators in today’s rapidly changing health care industry. Successful completion of the Medical Coding Certificate of Completion provides eligibility for the American Academy of Professional Coder’s Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination. Certified Professional Coders work within a variety of healthcare settings to review and assign correct coding of services, procedures and diagnoses for medical claims.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion, the graduate will be able to:

  • use the most current data sets required by the Health Care Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • assign codes for medical billing and reimbursement to patient diagnoses as well as to the medical, surgical, and diagnostic procedures performed by physicians.

Admission Guidelines

Complete the College placement tests in English, Mathematics, and Reading and place above the developmental level in English and Reading, and at or above MAT 011.

 *HCP 224 must be completed prior to enrolling in HCP 226 which is 8 weeks.
**HCP 226 must be completed prior to enrolling in HCP 227 which is 8 weeks.
