The federal government manages several grant and loan programs to help you achieve your educational goals. In order to receive federal financial aid, you must meet certain specific eligibility criteria, which were changed as of July 1, 2012. The following federal grants, which do not have to be repaid, are available to Montgomery County Community College students.
Amount of grant ranges from $200 to $5,645. Pell grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not previously received a bachelor’s or graduate degree and who demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), found at fafsa.gov. Pell grants are awarded based on an analysis of your FAFSA, expected family contribution, cost of attendance and enrollment status.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants
Amount of grant ranges from $100 to $600. The Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is for students who are eligible for Pell grants and have exceptional financial need. Because SEOG funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, not everyone who qualifies receives a grant—so be sure to apply early.
