All official score reports are issued by the Commonwealth Diploma Program, Department of Education, 333 Market Street, 12th Floor, Harrisburg, PA 17126, telephone 717-787-6747. Candidates will usually receive their score reports within 3-6 weeks after the test date. To receive a diploma, candidates must obtain at least 410 standard score points on each individual test and a total of at least 2250 standard score points on the battery of five tests.

A student who takes the test prior to 18 and passes will not be issued a diploma until age 18.

Candidates who did not successfully score the minimum on one or more of the GED tests may retest. The State recommends waiting 90 days before retesting in a particular subject. The cost for retesting is $25 per test. Retests in any subject must be taken with a different form of the test. When candidates retest, only the highest score on that particular test will be counted.

Everyone who successfully meets the scoring requirements established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will receive a High School Equivalency Diploma from the Department of Education.

Candidates Who Tested in Other States

Candidates who took any portion of the GED test in another state after January 1, 2002, but did not successfully pass the whole test may transfer their scores to Pennsylvania if they are now a PA resident. To do this, they need to obtain an official transcript of their GED test results from that state. (If they do not know whom to contact to do this, a list of GED Administrators is posted on www.gedtest.org).
