Federal grants do not have to be repaid.
The following federal grants are available to Montgomery County Community College students:
Pell Grants
Pell grants are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need through the FAFSA. Pell grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not previously received a bachelor’s or graduate degree. Pell grants are awarded based upon the analysis of the FAFSA, cost-of-attendance, expected family contribution, and enrollment status.
Amount $200 to $5,350
SEOG Grants
SEOG grants are awarded to students who are eligible for PELL grants on a first-come first-serve basis. Due to limited funds, students should apply early to be considered for the SEOG funds. Not everyone who qualifies for SEOG necessarily receives funds.
Amount $100 to $600
Academic Competitiveness Grants
Academic Competitive grants are awarded to first- or second-year, full-time, undergraduate students who have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study, received a PELL grant during the same award year, and are U.S. citizens.
- 1st year students—having completed secondary school after Jan. 1, 2006 - $750
- 2nd year students—having completed secondary school after Jan.1, 2005 and having at least a 3.0 GPA as of the end of the first academic year of undergraduate study - $1300
To determine your financial need, subtract the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from your Cost of Attendance (COA).
