Dance Performance Ensemble Concerts
Fall: Friday, December 2, 2011 at 8:00 PM
Spring: Friday, April 20, 2012 at 8:00 PM
The music department sponsors full evening length concerts by the college choir and Jazz Ensemble. These two groups have now become the core for our Performing Arts Showcase series, which presents two full evenings of works by our student performers every semester. Each show is a different event with a variety of material, including full-length choral masterworks, works from the a cappella tradition by the Chamber Choir. The Jazz ensemble presents a diverse selection of a wide variety of material, including big band standards and exciting arrangements of bebop, cool, and blues standards. The guitar program regularly presents works for both large and small groups, and recently has featured solo and duet performances by more advanced students. Students in the Digital music and Songwriting classes are offered opportunities to showcase their best materials as well. Although both the Dance and Theater Arts departments offer extensive programming of their own, the Performing Arts Showcases also offer an opportunity for those students to present their best works. The Dance Performance Ensemble performs hip-hop, jazz, modern, ballet, tap, and traditional Irish step dance. Students from Theater Arts classes have presented scenes from classical and modern repertory, as well as works written and produced by the students themselves.
