Axis Dance Company
Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 8 PM
Axis Dance Company is highly regarded the world over for paving the way for physically integrated dance within the contemporary dance community. Under the artistic direction of Judith Smith, the company of seven dancers with and without disabilities has performed in theaters and dance spaces at its home base in the Bay Area, on tour throughout the U.S., and internationally. In addition to works created by company members, important and high profile choreographers, including Bill T. Jones, Joe Goode, Stephen Petronio, and Joanna Haigood, among others, have actively invested in Axis by creating new work for the company. Axis is a many-time Isadora Duncan Dance Award (Izzie) winner and has been featured in numerous arts and documentary videos including WNET’s nationally broadcast People in Motion. Axis will be in-residence for one week conducting workshops and developing a community participation piece with choreographer David Dorfman. Their performance marks the 20th Anniversary of the American with Disabilities Act.
