Kae Tienstra has worked with books and authors for most of her life. After a thirteen year stint as a stay-at-home mom and a freelance writer, she joined Rodale, Inc. as publicity assistant. She became director of book publicity at Rodale and during her thirteen years at the company also handled magazine and corporate publicity projects. She left Rodale in 1993 to launch her own book publicity firm, KT Public Relations. After selling a number of self-published authors’ books with an agent colleague, Kae’s career as literary agent began. In 2005, Kae and her husband and business partner, Jon, began to pursue the agent business in earnest while separately maintaining their public relations shop. Their backgrounds in publicity and marketing help them identify books that editors want to publish. The company name was changed to KT Public Relations and Literary Services to reflect the two businesses. Kae describes her agent job as “a daily treasure hunt” and thrives on the excitement of the search.
