Personal Training Certificate

Purpose

Personal Training

The College’s Personal Training Certificate program provides a comprehensive curriculum and educational experience for students who wish to seek entry-level employment in the field of personal training. Graduates may choose to seek immediate employment or to continue their education, as credits from the Personal Training Certificate can be seamlessly applied to the College’s A.A.S. in Health and Fitness Professional or A.S. in Exercise Science and Wellness.

The Personal Training Certificate program is slated to begin in fall 2016 and will be offered at the College’s Central Campus in Blue Bell.

Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, the 32-credit Personal Training Certificate program prepares students to sit for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Personal Trainer Examination as well as a practicum experience in an educational fitness setting. The program is ideal for new and current students as well as for working professionals who wish to add the ACSM credential to their resumes.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this certificate program, graduates will be able to:

  1. Assess physical fitness, including cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and anthropometric measures in order to set goals and establish a baseline for exercise program development.
  2. Educate clients using scientifically based health and fitness information and resources to enhance client knowledge base, program enjoyment, adherence and overall awareness of health and fitness related information.
  3. Apply behavior change theories to individuals across populations and across the lifespan.
  4. Design fitness plans based on client interview, risk stratification, and physical fitness assessments.
