PHI 216 Major Figures/Philosophy: Classical Med.

This course provides in-depth readings of four major philosophers of the ancient and medieval periods: Plato, Aristotle, Augustine and Aquinas. Students will read Plato's The Republic and selected dialogues, and major portions of Aristotle's works on "first philosophy" and ethics. Portions of Augustine's Confessions will also be examined as well as significant passages from Aquinas's works. Critical assessments of each philosopher will also be presented and examined.
