Freedom Train tells the thrilling story of Harriet Tubman, the Moses of her people, in a fascinating series of highly theatrical scenes that use dance, dialogue, and music of the period. Songs include "Follow the Drinking Gourd," "Steal Away," "Wade in the Water," "Good News, the Chariot's A-comin'," and many others still sung today. Freedom Train is the story of self-sacrifice, dedication and survival, laced with warmth and a sense of humor that celebrates the human spirit.

Billy Childs and the
Ying Quartet
Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 8 PM
Billy Childs has become one of the most in demand composers, arrangers and pianists in jazz. He received a Grammy award for Best Instrumental Composition for Into The Light in 2005. His Jazz Chamber Ensemble performs true jazz with strong ties to the chamber music tradition. Child’s partnership with the Ying Quartet, who has an international reputation for performance excellence, is a natural extension of his compositional and performance philosophy to find commonality between jazz and European-based classical music. Childs has composed a piece specifically for this combination, and our regional premiere of this imaginative program, features music performed by all ten musicians, as well as separate jazz and classical elements.
