MCCC to Hold 41st Commencement
on May 22 in Blue Bell

 

May 5, 2008, Blue Bell, Pa.—A total of 1,062* students will graduate this spring from Montgomery County Community College, with campuses in Blue Bell and Pottstown, Pa. The College’s 41st annual Commencement ceremony will be held on May 22 at 7 p.m. in Blue Bell. Chris Matthews, television host of “Hardball” and “The Chris Matthews Show,” will give the keynote address. Graduate Melisa Lee, of Schwenksville, will provide the student address.

This year, 210 students will graduate from the College’s West Campus in Pottstown, which is the largest number of graduates in the campus’ 11-year history. Of note, six students will graduate after having completed all of their degree requirements online through the College’s e-Learning program. The remainder of 846 graduates took the majority of their classes at the Central Campus in Blue Bell.

Overall, 459 students will graduate from the College with honors—Summa Cum Laude (GPA of 3.75 and up) 148 students, including 39 students with a perfect 4.0 GPA; Magna Cum Laude (GPA of 3.50-3.74) 144 students; and Cum Laude (GPA of 3.25-3.49) 167 students. In addition, 261 of the graduates are members of Phi Theta Kappa International Honors Society, and 71 students from this year’s class were accepted into Who’s Who Among Students In American Junior Colleges for the 2007-2008 academic year. Eleven students from the College’s comprehensive Honors Program will also graduate.

Broken down by degree type, 533 students will graduate with an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree, including 379 in Liberal Studies and 78 in Business Administration; 331 students will graduate with an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree, including 136 in Nursing and 35 each in Criminal Justice and Early Childhood Education; and 97 students will graduate with an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree, including 52 in Elementary or Secondary Education. In addition, 52 students will graduate with an Associate in General Studies (A.G.S.) degree; four with an Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.) degree; and 64 students will graduate with Certificates, include 17 in Medical Assisting.

The average age of the 2008 graduating class is 28. The youngest graduate is age 17, and the oldest is age 61.
