Commemorative Tile Wall

Industry Tile

A commemorative tile wall mural project is dedicated to all those who have so generously given their time, talents, and resources to help thousands of students fulfill their dreams. And you are invited to become part of this unique, work-of-art project.

The Montgomery County Community College Foundation wishes to raise funds to support student scholarships, cultural programming, and college/community enrichment activities. Contributing a tile to the wall in honor of a member of the College community helps raise funds and visually memorializes the honoree.

In recognition of the importance of your participation in this effort, a hand-crafted ceramic tile, individually inscribed, will be mounted as part of a mural depicting a "Well-Spring of Support for Montgomery County Community College." Located on the center wall of College Hall, the tiles in this mural will create a lasting tribute, seen by all who visit the campus, to those who have made a commitment to support our College.

Horse Tile Called "The Well-Spring of Support for Montgomery County Community College," the ceramic tile wall was designed by Will Mead of Peace Valley Tile in New Britain, Pennsylvania. A fine arts graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, Mead studied at the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works and established his own company in 1985. His work can be seen locally in private collections as well as at the Mercer Museum, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Doylestown, and Bucks County Community College in Newtown.

Wall Image In creating "The Well-Spring," Mead researched the history of Montgomery County and incorporated these elements into the design. A self-contained electrically-run fountain with recycling water that fills a ceramic bowl and then trickles down to a pool that contains large rocks draws the eye to the central theme. A frieze along the base of the wall reflects the foundation of Montgomery County: agriculture and industry. The remaining structure includes classic architectural open-house features draped with ivy (traditional education) and adorned with a grouse (Pennsylvania's official bird) and other fauna and flora.

Matthew J. Keene admits he was a little intimidated when he started taking courses at Montgomery County Community College, because at age 15, he was one of the youngest students on campus. However, in a few months, he quickly grew comfortable with his full slate of courses and activities.
