Institutional Research
Statement of Confidentiality
for Primary Data Collection Respondents

The Office of Institutional Research is the primary office responsible for collecting data regarding student, faculty and staff opinions, perceptions, and attitudes toward the College using quantitative and qualitative research methods. Although social research generally implies confidentiality for respondents, the following Statement of Confidentiality for Primary Data Collection Respondents outlines the specific details of the confidentiality protection guaranteed to respondents by the College.

    • Respondent's identity is collected by Institutional Research for the exclusive purposes of tracking responders and correlating survey data with administrative data (e.g. course grades, race and ethnicity).
    • Institutional Research staff (Director, Research Analyst, and Administrative Assistant) are the only College employees with access to data linking individual respondents with their responses.
    • Institutional Research presents data in aggregated forms to the College community and any respondents requesting such data.
    • Institutional Research will not disclose in any written or oral format individual identities of respondents to any external sources unless required by law.
    • Institutional Research will not disclose in any written or oral format individual identities of respondents to any internal sources with the following two exceptions:

      1. A respondent specifically asks for assistance (e.g. information about transferring), or
      2. A respondent reports an activity, which has serious possible legal repercussions for the College (e.g. sexual harassment).
