Discussion Board:

To use the Discussion Board in your Blackboard course, you must first add a Forum to the Discussion Board section. This only needs to be done once on your site.

To create a Discussion Forum, follow these steps:

  • Enter your course on Blackboard
  • Click on the "Communication" button on the left
  • Click on the "Discussion Board" button
  • Click the grey "Add Forum" button
  • Type a title for the forum (e.g. Discussion Questions) in the "Subject" box and a description of the forum (e.g. Use this forum to answer the questions that I post here) in the "Description" box
  • Uncheck the box next to "Allow anonymous posts"
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "submit" button

Once the forum has been created, you and your students can post new threads/messages, open messages, and reply to message following these instructions:

  • Click on the link to the forum (e.g. "Discussion Questions")
  • Click the grey "Add new thread" button
  • Type a subject for your message in the "Subject" box and your message content in the "Message" box
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Submit" button

To read a message in the forum, click on its link (the left-most link in the list of messages that is the message's subject).

To reply to a message, open the message by clicking on its link. Then, click the grey "Reply" button at the bottom right of the message. Fill in the "Message" box and click the "Submit" button.
