- a. make an appointment to discuss this policy with a counselor.
- have an enrollment break at MCCC for a period of three or more consecutive years.
- have a GPA less than 2.00 before the enrollment break occurs.
- have never been granted an ACADEMIC RENEWAL.
- have a minimum of 12 registered credits with a GPA greater than 2.00. (These courses are to be taken after the enrollment break.)
- file the application with the Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Provost’s office.
- meet with the Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Provost for final approval.
- A statement pertaining to ACADEMIC RENEWAL will be placed on the transcript above the 12 or more credits taken after the break from MCCC.
- All courses taken before ACADEMIC RENEWAL will remain on the transcript but will not be used for calculating the GPA or for meeting degree requirements.
- There will be one exception to statement b): Students may carry forward as many as 15 credits taken before ACADEMIC RENEWAL begins where the grade for the course was C or better. (It is the student's responsibility to select the courses to be carried forward.)
- The new GPA will include only those courses taken after the enrollment break, along with the courses carried forward.
- Credit earned by means other than MCCC course work will not be affected and will count toward the degree requirements.
- Successfully completed developmental courses will fulfill graduation requirements without being moved forward.

Policy
This program is designed for students who have previously attended the College and compiled an unsuccessful academic record. The ACADEMIC RENEWAL PROGRAM provides currently enrolled eligible students with an opportunity to redirect their academic goals or to renew their college careers. This ONE-TIME-ONLY option permits students to reset the Montgomery County Community College Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Credits Earned to zero.
