How do I get started in the nursing program?

  1. Attend a Nursing Information Session. Call 215-641-6671 to register
  2. Complete an MCCC admissions application listing NR.GS as your major or apply online. If you are already an MCCC student, fill out a change of major form.
  3. Have your official high school and any official college transcripts sent to:

  4. Take the College's placement tests. You may be exempt from the English and reading tests if you bring an officially or non-official transcript to the Testing Office. However, all applications must take the mathematics placement tests regardless of previous math background
  5. Make an appointment with Barbara Rodengorough or Marjorie Guzek, Nursing program advisors, to plan your program of study

How long is the wait to be accepted into the clinical portion of the nursing program?

There is no set waiting period. As soon as you complete the requirements for entry, you will be considered for acceptance. Since the number of students accepted each year is limited, however, only those who have all prerequisites and pre-admission requirements successfully completed will be considered.

How many students are usually accepted each year?

150 - Fifty each Fall, Spring and Summer semester

Is there a waiting list to get into the clinical portion of the program?

Currently there is a waiting list.

When are acceptance decisions made?

Decisions for Fall semester are made in May of the previous semester. Decision for Spring are made in October of the previous semester and decisions for Summer are made in February.

Is enrollment limited to Montgomery County Residents?

No, the program is open to out of county and out of state residents. However, preference is given to Montgomery County residents.

How long does it take to complete the Nursing Program?

Once you are accepted into the clinical portion of the program, you should be finished in two years. The number of prerequisites you need to complete will add more time to the program. If you are accepted into the summer program, you could complete the clinical portion of the program in 16 months.

What courses should I take while waiting for acceptance into the program?

We recommend you take all prerequisite courses and as many of the general education courses listed in the program as possible. If you are planning eventually to enter a bachelor's degree program, you may wish to take liberal arts transfer courses. An advisor will help you with appropriate course selections.
