Awards for Graduation

*Academic Dean's Award

This award is given to a student in good academic standing who has completed a minimum of 35 academic credits and who the Academic Deans recognize as demonstrating innovation, creativity and initiative, to the benefit of Montgomery County Community College.

Potential recipients need to be recommended by any member of the College community (student, faculty, support staff or administrator).

*Faculty Union Award For Excellence In Scholarship

Eligibility is for graduating seniors who are themselves union members or who have a parent or spouse who is a union member. The award is for $500 and will be made to the eligible student with the highest GPA.

The Joy L. Kanter Award

This award is a part of the Joy L. Kanter Memorial Fund which provides annual scholarship support in addition to annual graduation awards. The Joy L. Kanter Memorial Fund was established by Richard Kanter, in memory of his late wife. The award is given to a non-native speaker of English who has completed ESL/REA course work with distinction. The recipient is selected by the Stephen Grieco, Parkhouse Hall 449, Ext. 6350, in consultation with ESL and REA faculty.

+*Alumni Association Award

This award recognizes a graduate who has shown outstanding achievement in his/her field of study.

Potential recipients need to be recommended by a faculty member or administrator. Melissa LoRusso, West House, Ext. 6529.

+*Alumni Graduate Achievement Award

This award is for the graduate who has overcome a difficult circumstance (in order to pursue a higher education) and has maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average.

+*Carol F. Whitcomb Memorial PHI THETA KAPPA Award

This award is given to a Phi Theta Kappa member who is graduating and transferring to a four-year college, is in good academic standing, and has financial need.

Potential recipients need to be recommended by a faculty member or administrator. A letter of recommendation should be sent to Student Activities, Central Campus, Ext. 6581 or Ruth Godin, West Campus, Ext. 1839.

+*Gladys C. Pearlstine Award

This award is given to a female graduate who exemplifies the characteristics of enthusiasm and courage and emulates the life of Mrs. Gladys Pearlstine, a former Board of Trustees member.

+*President's Distinguished Service Award

This award recognizes a graduate for his/her academic achievement and service to students and the community. Applications available in Student Activities Office at both Campuses.

+*Commencement Speaker Award

This graduate is chosen to represent this year's graduating class.

+*Beth Kessler Waasdorp Award

This award is given to a graduate majoring in Education or Human Services who has attained an excellent academic record and will prove to be a credit to his/her chosen field.

Potential recipients need to be recommended by a faculty member or administrator. A letter of recommendation should be sent to Debbie Levin, Parkhouse Hall, Ext. 6333; and Diane Haar, Parkhouse Hall, Ext. 6419.

*Academic Excellence Award

This award is given to transfer graduates with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.

*The Sandy And Gary Bard Award

This award is for the graduate with the highest G.P.A. in the Computer Science program.

*The Elaine And Herman Blumenthal Award

This award is granted to graduates with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. All courses must be taken at Montgomery County Community College.

*Dr. William A. Bradley Award

This award is given to the graduate recommended by the Social Sciences Division with an outstanding record in Psychology and Sociology Courses.

*Mathematics Excellence Award

This award is given to a graduate with the highest G.P.A. in mathematics.

The Mathematics Achievement Award

This award is given to a graduate who started out in MAT 010 or MAT 011 and successfully completed five (5) or more college level math courses.

The Pennsylvania Institute Of CPA's Award

This award is given to the graduate with the highest G.P.A. in Accounting.

Karen A. Stout Student Leadership Award

This award recognizes a student for his/her outstanding leadership, who is active in Student Government and community service and, like, Dr. Stout, is committed to serving the students of MCCC.

Rosemary A. Cimino Memorial Fund

This award is given to a deserving student in the Business Division in memory of Rosemary A. Cimino, who faithfully served the College for 27 years.

Al Owens Spirit Award

This award is given to a student who exhibited a constant sense of sprit in their personal lives and their academics.

This award is in memory of Stephen A. Lehr who faced many challenges and obstacles.  This award is given to a student who overcame challenges and achieved his/her graduation goals.
