Disabled Parking Procedures

The College reserves the right to review the issuance and retention of all disabled parking hangtags.

  1. TYPES OF DISABLED PARKING HANGTAGS
    1. Annual Disabled Parking Hangtag
      (for those who will be on campus from September through August)

      Individuals who hold a current State disabled parking placard or license plate may apply for an annual hangtag.

    2. Temporary Disabled Parking Hangtag
      1. Individuals requesting a temporary disabled parking hangtag due to a short-term medical or surgical illness must present physician's explanation of reason for disabled parking written on the MCCC Disabled Parking Application form under Section—For Physician Use.

        For your convenience:

        • the physician's medical note may be attached to the application form and delivered to College Hall Room 241 at Central or the Public Safety Office located in Room 129 of 101 College Drive at West, or
        • the physician's office may fax the medical note to the Public Safety Office at confidential fax # 215-619-7188 at Central or 610-718-1963 at West.

      2. Length of time granted for a temporary request is a maximum of 45 days.

  2. CRITERIA FOR APPROVING DISABLED PARKING REQUESTS
    1. Approval

      The Public Safety Supervisor at Central or the Director of Administrative Services at West is responsible for reviewing and approving requests for disabled parking. Each will consult with the Vice President of Administration and Finance, Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Director of College Services, and/or the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities as needed.

    2. Annual Requests

      Annual requests will be approved for individuals who hold a current State parking placard or license plate that is valid through August of the current school year.

    3. Temporary Requests

      Temporary requests may be approved for conditions that create a hardship and make it difficult to walk from the back of the main parking lots to the buildings for a period not to exceed 45 days.

  3. LOCATION OF APPLICATION FORMS, MCCC PARKING DECALS, AND DISABLED PARKING HANGTAGS
    1. MCCC Disabled Parking Applications
      1. For Central Campus—Disabled Parking Applications, once completed, may be faxed to the Public Safety Office at confidential FAX # 215-619-7188 or mailed or taken to College Hall 241.
      2. For West Campus—Disabled Parking Applications, once completed, may be faxed to the Public Safety Office at confidential FAX # 610-718-1963 or mailed or taken to Public Safety located in Room 129 of 101 College Drive.
      3. MCCC Disabled Parking Application forms are available from:
        • Public Safety Office in College Hall, Room 241 (second floor)
        • Parkhouse Information Center located in Parkhouse Hall, Room 131 (near the elevator)
        • Public Safety Office in Room 129 of 101 College Drive (lobby)

    2. MCCC Parking Decals and Disabled Parking Hangtags
      1. MCCC Public Safety Parking Decal, which registers your vehicle with the College, may be obtained at the Public Safety Office in College Hall, Room 241 (second floor) or Public Safety Office in Room 129 of 101 College Drive and is to be placed on the rear car bumper—left side. You must have a College parking decal to obtain a disabled parking hangtag.
      2. MCCC Disabled Parking Hangtags may be obtained from either Public Safety Office.
      3. MCCC Disabled Parking Hangtag, which identifies vehicle, disabled parking location, and expiration date, is to be displayed on the vehicle's inside front rearview mirror.

    Do display valid Disabled Parking Hangtag on front rearview mirror. Don't park car illegally—such as in fire zones, walkways, spaces designated for Service Vehicle and Child Care Drop Off, etc.
    Do park in assigned lot. Don't give your disabled parking placard to anyone else. It is not transferable.
    Do register car with Public Safety Office and place MCCC Security Parking Decal on left side of car's rear bumper.  

  6. WHAT TO DO WHEN LOTS ARE FULL
    1. If Assigned Lot Is Full, The Following Alternatives Are Available
      1. May park in a disabled parking space adjacent to another building
      2. May park in a disabled parking space in main lots
      3. May park in space designated "Restricted Parking"

    2. If you experience difficulty finding a disabled parking space, you may contact Public Safety through the Switchboard Operator at 215-641-6300 at Central or 610-718-1800 at West, press 0 (zero) when you hear the College message start. A Public Safety Officer will assist you with parking your vehicle in an appropriate area, so as not to create a potentially hazardous situation for your vehicle and/or others needing access to the building entrance and loading dock areas.
    3. Cars Parked Illegally Will Be Subject To Ticketing For Parking Violations
    4. Spaces designated "Van Only" and "Van Accessible" are designed to accommodate those individuals whose vehicles are equipped with a wheelchair lift. Additional space around the vehicle is required in order to operate the lift allowing the individual to gain access to and from the vehicle.

  7. WHAT TO DO IF YOU NEED TO USE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE
    1. If you will be driving a different vehicle, other than the one listed on the MCCC Disabled Parking Hangtag, please notify the College Switchboard Operator at 215-641-6300 at Central or 610-718-1800 at West to have this vehicle put on that day's exception list. To get to the operator, press "0" when the college message starts and you will be transferred directly to the operator.
    2. If you will be driving a different vehicle for longer than 2 - 3 days, please call the Public Safety Office at 215-641-6300 at Central or 610-718-1800 at West to obtain a temporary MCCC Disabled Parking Hangtag for this vehicle.
