Blue Bell—Located in College Hall, Lower Level, Room 127
Pottstown—Located in Room 151 at 101 College Drive
- Initial assessment and treatment of minor illness, e.g., colds, upset stomach, headaches, etc.
- First aid care for injuries.
- Evaluation and referral for emergency care services.
- Wellness assessment, including blood pressure and heart rate evaluation.
- Referrals to local physicians and dentists for further evaluation and treatment.
- Weight gain/loss monitoring.
- Health education and counseling.
- Counseling and referral for evaluation and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (including AIDS), emotional and psychiatric disorders, alcohol and drug dependency, etc.
- Free brochures on a variety of health issues are available and on display outside of Health Services—College Hall, Room 127 at Blue Bell and on the Second Floor at Pottstown.
- Workshops and seminars on pertinent health issues are conducted throughout the year.
- Information on low to moderate cost individual health insurance coverage options.
- Information on local resources for free and/or low cost health care services for eligible individuals.
- Information on Disabled Parking at the College and application forms.
When can I go to Health Services?
- Blue Bell—generally Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Pottstown—the College Nurse is at Pottstown one day per week. Since the day varies each week, check with the Information Desk to find out if the College Nurse is on campus.
Do I have to make an appointment?
- Students and members of the faculty, support staff, and administration are encouraged to use Health Services on a walk-in basis. There is a licensed Professional Registered Nurse available during office hours.
- Blue Bell and Pottstown students may pre-schedule an appointment with the College Nurse by calling 215-641-6606.
There are no charges for services provided by the Health Services College Nurse. However, students and all other individuals are responsible for charges incurred for ambulance transportation and emergency hospital care, including x-rays, laboratory tests, physician fees, etc.
Who is eligible to use Campus Health Services?
All health services provided by the College Nurse are available without charge to MCCC students, faculty, support staff, and administration. All accidents, injuries and/or illnesses involving College employees and students (regardless of campus site), including those involving any extracurricular activities, must be reported within 24-48 hours to Public Safety (215-641-6666) as well as documented on the College's Accident / Injury / Illness Report form (available from Public Safety and the College Nurse).
What health services are available to the distance learner?
The College Nurse is able to provide a variety of health related information, through available brochures and pamphlets, as well as links to community resources and other sources of current medical information (such as the Internet). In addition, several online health-related programs are available for distance learners on the Health Services webpage.
Pre-participation physicals must be completed for all students interested in participating in extramural sport activities. MCCC physical exam forms are available from the Physical Education Center and need to be completed by the student's family physician. In addition, students participating in extramural sport activities must show proof of current health insurance coverage.
What do I do if I have an emergency anytime-day or night?
- Public Safety Officers respond to all emergencies.
- The College Nurse responds to all emergencies when on duty and available.
- In an emergency at the Blue Bell, use the emergency phones located in the Physical Education Center, Cathcart Annex, College Hall, Science Center, Parkhouse Hall; or in the 202, Morris Road, Cathcart, and the Athletic Field parking lots.
- Emergency phones will automatically connect you to the College Switchboard Operator or a Public Safety Officer within four rings.
- From a non-emergency College phone at Blue Bell, dial 6666. Dial 215-641-6666 from a pay phone.
- All medical emergencies at Blue Bell are transported to a local hospital (generally Montgomery Hospital or Mercy Suburban Hospital).
- In an emergency at Pottstown
- at 101 College Drive - use the emergency phones located on the Ground Floor (Garage Foyer), First Floor (outside rooms 124 and 152), and Second Floor (Main Foyer), and in the east and west parking lots.
- at 16 High Street - use emergency phone located just outside the main entrance.
- From a non-emergency College phone at Pottstown, dial 1913. Dial 610-718-1913 from a pay phone.
- All medical emergencies at Pottstown are transported to a local hospital (generally Pottstown Memorial Medical Center).
- Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are available at both campuses.
- At the Blue Bell Campus, there is an AED unit located in the
- College Hall, Second Floor, near Room 241;
- Physical Education Center, First Floor, across from the Sports Equipment Room;
- Science Center, Second Floor, near Room 248;
- Parkhouse Hall, First Floor, near the Information Center;
- Art Barn, near Room 102; and
- Public Safety vehicle.
- At the Pottstown Campus, the AED unit is located on the wall between the Campus Bookstore and the Public Safety Office on the First Floor of the 101 College Drive Building.
