MCCC Pandemic Preparedness
Purpose
The Office of the President of Montgomery County Community College, having
recognized the potential threat of a pandemic influenza and the impact
it could have on the College and its surrounding communities empowered
a team of representatives from diverse areas within the College to develop
a plan in response to the anticipated effects of such an outbreak. The
purpose of the Pandemic Influenza Outbreak Plan is to provide written guidelines
for how Montgomery County Community College, working in cooperation with
local and State public health authorities, will respond to the threat of
a pandemic. The Plan addresses prevention and preparation, communications,
travel alerts and recovery efforts.
Implementation
- Upon receiving communication from local, State or Federal health officials regarding a pandemic outbreak, the Montgomery County Community College Emergency Response Team will immediately convene to implement the College’s Pandemic Influenza Outbreak Plan and make recommendations to the President or her designee.
- Students, faculty, staff and others using the College on a regular
basis will be instructed to monitor information released by the College’s
Marketing and Public Relations Officer.

- As the situation is monitored by the College’s Emergency Response Team, specific directives may be given such as the cancellation of classes and closure of the facilities.
- As information is received from local and State health authorities, individuals will be instructed as to where to go to receive treatment from a Point of Dispensing (POD) location
- The College will adhere to any and all government mandates to close its facilities.
Prevention Measures
- To reduce the spread of infection, generally as well as during
a pandemic,
individuals are actively encouraged to:- Wash their hands frequently
- Avoid touching their eyes, nose or mouth
- Use hand sanitizers on a regular basis
- Avoid being in the company of others who are ill
- Cover their mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and dispose of used tissues appropriately
- Exercise on a regular basis, eat a healthy diet and get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep
- The Director of Facilities Management at the Blue Bell Campus Campus,
the Director for Administrative Services at the Pottstown Campus, and
the Supervisor for Custodial Services, in collaboration with the College
Nurse will maintain a cleaning program to help reduce the spread of infection
at the College.
