Product Recall Website

Have you ever been listening to the radio or been nearby the television when suddenly you hear a message about a product recall, possibly a food item, a household product, a vehicle, etc.

You rush to get a pencil and paper to record the information, but the announcement is finished by the time you return. Oh well, you said to yourself - it probably didn't apply to anything you had anyway, and so you forgot about it just that quickly.

Than, months, maybe years later, you find that your vehicle had a steering wheel safety recall which you are finally be informed about at the time of service following a crash when your car would not turn properly, or maybe your mattress, on which you have been sleeping, has been recalled due to failure to meet fire code standards.

Well, there is no need to wait for recall announcements over the radio or television.

You can now go to a new website: www.recalls.gov

At the request of President Bush, six federal agencies, with vastly different jurisdictions, have joined together to create www.recalls.gov—a "one stop shop" for U.S Government recalls. This website will enable these agencies to provide a better service in alerting the American people to unsafe, hazardous or defective products.

The federal agencies involved include:

  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • United States Coast Guard (USCG)
  • Department of Agriculture (USDA)
  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
  • Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC)

Recall information is available on consumer products, motor vehicles, boats, food, medicine, cosmetics, and environmental products.

So, someday when you are thinking - what can I do in my spare time - take a few moments and checkout this website and see if some of the products you may have around your home are as safe as they appear. It just may save you and/or someone you care about from future injury.
